All toys require different starting points to achieve their absolute uniqueness.  Art toys often have a distinctly handmade feel to them.  Whilst the aim may be larger scale production, the start can often benefit for keeping it's roots in the hand-made.

Cutting up old baby clothes and sourcing fabric, then using a sewing machine to creatively come to a character.  There is beauty in imperfection and a discovery by working in this way that you don't find on a computer or even hand sketching.
