The Kin Print is a story of nothing to something. A desire to remain creative at a time when the retail world momentarily stopped ticking. In 2020 I offered a personalised portrait as a gift on a charity auction, having only done one portrait of my own family. I truly believe in the kindness economy, give a little and a get a little back...
Kindness created new opportunities
Friends and family put in their requests and I soon realised that there may be a wider demand. I learnt how to photograph black and white portraits in a variety of ways to prevent repetition. I developed my skills in iPhone photography and editing apps. I aimed to photograph with props and in settings that gave an insight into me as an artist and as a person.....
More than a side hustle
I learnt about the connection of social media and put myself through a course called The 'Instagram retreat' with Instagram expert Sara Tasker. I take orders, illustrate, print and package many bespoke requests and have begun to understand the mechanics behind a different kind of retailing. It is way more than a side hustle, it's a journey feeding into the experience and adding to my Design Story!
